What ever happened to living below your means?
What ever happened to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle?
What ever happened to Time Management Procedures?
What ever happened to “We The People” as opposed to the Almighty Government who assume THEY know best?
As a candidate for Mayor in the Town of Fromberg, I have asked that same question many times at budgets sessions. We have a lot of waste , not only in money, but in employee time, supplies and of course there is always a “want” list submitted. The Town has purchased equipment for small amounts of money, but have spent many times that amount to repair and maintain that equipment. Good old fashioned “elbow grease ” has gone out the window. Why go out and work when you can get a piece of equipment to make the job easier? At the last town meeting, the Mayor and crew brought in an employee of MAP, to help explain why my suggestions on budget cuts were not feasible. That the town employees would be so much busier with the work on the new lagoon project. The work on the lagoons has and will be bid out to qualified contractors who in turn will hire or bring in their own crew to complete any work that needs to be done. Yes, there may a little extra work that may be required from the employees, but , a lot extra? No.
There was also a “buy -sell” contract in our packets for purchase of the barley field (10 Acres). Now this was not advertised , posted for public hearing , nor was any advance information given to council members. I realize, legally the Town does not have to go through these steps, but , ethically they should have. The Town Mayor, employees and Council should be accountable to the community as a whole, not to just a few select people. If citizens of Fromberg have concerns about anything, they should come to the meetings and voice them. Your tax dollars support and pay the bills for the Town, let your voice be heard. A lot of us are on a budget, a strict budget and we all have to make cuts when necessary, so why shouldn’t the Town?
