There was a buy-sell contract in our packets for the council meeting from Mark and Leza Vargas to purchase the ten acres the town owns (barley field). I was not informed of this sudden interest in those ten acres and Mr. Nottingham wasn’t either. I have done a lot of research on the selling of city property and am wondering WHY this was not advertised as required? Ethically , if not legally, it should have merited a resolution at council to declare it surplus property, advertised in the paper for two weeks, followed by a public hearing. None of this was done, leaving some to question if this was a back room deal. I have received two calls today about this deal and both parties said they would have made an offer on the property, if it had been advertised properly , before the buy-sell was signed. This matter has been deferred to the next meeting. I will continue to research Montana Law, so I can answer questions being asked me.?
Shirley Miller- For a council member to suggest a “Backroom Deal” was possibly made in that offer to purchase the barley field by Mark and Leza Vargas is a serious misrepresentation of the facts and quite accusatory. An unsolicited bid to purchase that property was made to the town to show interest in purchasing it. Proper procedures to follow that bid were anticipated and to suggest otherwise is unethical. I am constantly reading your condemnation posts of either your own town government representatives or community members and I, for one, find it distasteful and toxic. Nothing good can come of all of the negative innuendos.
This issue with water rights has only come up recently. Now this was only posted on facebook , after a person in town advertised their property for sale and Leza Vargas made it an issue online with a post saying these people were using water illegally, when they had permission to use it. My question was, why and for what purpose was all this posted on face book, other than to get Leza Vargas’ name out to he public, now that she has been talked into running for Mayor. The fact that Josh Jabelara, from MAP was at the meeting at the request of the Mayor and Mike to convince the council that cutting the budget was ill advised. He is not at all familiar with the budget, nor is he familiar with the workload of the town employees or wasted time. I will research the issue of extra work that will have to performed involving the employees, but , we have contractors coming in to construct the new lagoon and they undoubtedly will bring their own workforce. Now there might be a little extra work for the employees, but not enough to hire a full time person. Never the less I will follow up on this and post my findings.?
