After having listened to this conversation again, I am having a hard time with comments made by the Mayor and his wife about the downtown businesses. I have never heard anyone talk about Fromberg being a “crappy place to live”. I am not sure which post office the Mayor’s wife goes to, but I am sure she doesn’t hear this “negative garbage ” at ours. Most of the negative garbage is created in her mind and if you listen closely to the tape, you will hear a lot of that negativity coming from HER. The Mayor wants to put the blame anywhere, but on himself and the Council. The main reason people are upset and even angry, is because their concerns are summarily dismissed. There have been too many that say it is no use to go to a meeting or file a complaint, because he always has an excuse for the employee to which the complaint was against. “They don’t like the person because he talked gruffly to them, or they have had problems with them, etc” . It is never the lack of job performance, wasted time or etc. He said at one meeting recently, he didn’t consider letters written to the Council as a bona fide complaint, and that they should file a “proper” complaint form that was available in the office. The only complaints forms at the office are complaint forms about weeds, animals and such that go to the Town law enforcement officer. There are no “proper” complaint forms for someone to fill out.
And I have never heard anyone call a council member a “yes man”, if it did happen, maybe it is because people see it always agreeing with the Mayor and really not looking at other problems and possibilities for correction.
We were told to come up with facts and figures that would prove to them how and what budget cuts would benefit the town. I would like to see a plan that shows me why the town would benefit by spending almost as much money as we take in every month.
Looking at just the Town Judge’s budget, we pay out almost $11,000. a year. The Judge is here 4 days a month. Sometimes she has citations and sometimes she doesn’t. If we have fines totaling $180, $50 of that fine goes to the victims fund, a large portion goes to the county, by the time it is all said and done, the town adds, maybe, $65 to our coffers. When the town is taking in MAYBE $3000 a year in fines, and that is a stretch, and paying out $11,000, tell me where the savings are. And the amount of fines collected (see previous amount) tells me we are that we are losing money.
The State Laws say, we cannot mandate a quota (amount of citations), but we do ask that the streets and highway are patrolled regularly and that is not being done. There so many other things that need to be improved upon from the town employees.
Please go to town hall, get a copy of the budget, study it, come to a meeting and voice your concerns. If I am wrong, I will gladly vote for this budget.
